Electric Stand Up Rider Trucks

Toyota Stand-up rider units can be seen in both counterbalanced versions and those with base legs.  These units are typically used in applications where space is at a premium.  Operator compartment room is sacrificed in order to achieve tighter turning radiuses.

The Toyota counterbalanced unit offers 1-1.5 feet less turning radius that the typical 3 wheeler.  It can be used to unload trailers, work in a warehouse, and support most any indoor mission.  Please be aware that the need for tiller steering and hand controls produces a set of undesirable features regardless of the manufacturer.  Extra training is required and learning curves are longer than the sit down versions.  There are also more moving parts to maintain and produce.

Reach trucks reduce the turning radius again by having base legs to support the load instead of relying solely on counterweight.  Now a 9 foot or smaller aisle can be used instead of the typical 11-12 foot aisle seen in counterbalanced applications.  The reach function allows the forks to scissors out past the end of the base legs allowing it to pick loads from the floor.  The base legs, however, do hamper the ground clearance and restrict the use in dock applications.  They are also 50% more expensive to purchase.

Straddle trucks are similar to reach trucks but without the scissors assembly.   These are best suited for captive pallet or extremely disciplined applications.  The base legs need to fit around every load desired to be picked from the floor.
