Fireworks! Why do we celebrate July 4th with colorful explosions?

Happy July 4th from American Warehouse Systems Our Independence Day (commonly known as July 4th) is a day of celebration commemorating the adoption of the Declaration of Independence.  On July 4, 1776, we declared independence from the Kingdom of Great Britain and we've been celebrating our freedom from that day on. According to historians, fireworks were introduced into the freedom celebration because John Adams wanted it that way.  Before the Declaration of Independence was even signed, he envisioned fireworks as a central part of the festivities.  According to a letter John Adams wrote to Abigail Adams on July 3, 1776, he stated that the day should be commemorated "with Pomp and Parade, with Shews, Games, Sports, Guns, Bells, Bonfires and Illuminations from one End of this Continent to the other from this Time forward forever ...
