The Ever-Popular M240

One of the most loved weapons among the infantry in the United States Armed Forces is the M240 Machine Gun.  In use since the 1980s, the M240 is a belt-fed, gas operated medium machine gun that uses the 7.62 x 51mm NATO cartridge.  While it isn’t the lightest machine gun in its class, it is one of the most reliable and most widely used. The M240 is often found among rifle companies, as well as ground vehicles, watercraft and aircraft.  This machine gun is usually fired from a bipod, tripod, or a mounted position on a vehicle.  There are many variants of this weapon, with each deviation designed to meet a specific area of the military.  One of the most common variations is the M240G, ... The LCVP / Higgins Boat

Introduced in 1941, the Higgins boat was a critical part in the Allies winning WWII.  Made from plywood, it was a shallow, barge-like boat that could ferry an entire platoon from a ship to a beach.  The Higgins boat was 36 feet long and just under 11 feet wide.  It could carry 36 men, a jeep and 12 men, or 8,000 lbs of cargo and equipment.  It was powered with a 225 horsepower diesel engine that allowed travel speeds of up to 12 knots. The ramp was one of the most important parts of the boat because it allowed for a quick unloading.  This meant that men were on the ground faster than with other boats.  Additionally, the Higgins boat was designed to have a ... What is a Hero?

What is a Hero? by Amber Chrudimsky What is a hero?  I invite you to ask those around you.  More than likely, you'll get a different response from each person.  Some people say their hero is the person that raised them, others may say their hero is someone who made a huge impact in their life, and still others may say that the men and women fighting for our freedom are heroes. I won't dispute any of those definitions. A recent string of events has introduced me to a new hero, one I had never considered before. On June 13th, 2012 Marine Cpl Taylor Baune was killed by an IED while serving our country in Afghanistan.  Taylor and I had attended high school together, though ... Read more

Change In Command

On June 19th, the 3rd Infantry Regiment experienced a change of command.  This is a military tradition that represents a formal transfer of responsibility and authority for a particular unit.  In this case, Colonel Dave Anders handed over power to Colonel Jim Markert. Col. Markert gave a speech that consisted of just 21 words, greeting his new unit and announcing that all previous policies and procedures were to remain in place. The video is a compilation of photos and video from the ceremony.  The musical accompaniment is provided by the Army’s premier band Pershing’s Own and the Fife and Drum Corps. American Warehouse Systems is proud to support our men and women in uniform.  God Bless America! Read more
