New Years Resolutions

Military members celebrate New Years while deployed in Iraq With New Years right around the corner, it’s time to start making those New Year’s Resolutions.  Many of us are making goals that will better our own lives, such as trying to lose weight or quit smoking.  This year, American Warehouse Systems is asking you to make a resolution that will help others as well. We are proud supporters of our military and their families.  In 2012, we made contributions to three incredible organizations, Disabled American Veterans, Operation Homefront, and Special Operations Warrior Foundation.  DAV is dedicated to building better lives for America’s disabled veterans and their families.  Operation Homefront provides emergency financial and other assistance to the families of our service members and wounded warriors.  The Special Operations Warrior Foundation provides full scholarship grants ... Hand Grenades

Hand grenades are small bombs that have been around for hundreds of years.  Thrown by hand, they are designed to detonate after impact or after a set amount of time.  Grenades come in many varieties, with each type achieving a different result. The most common type used by the United States Military is the anti-personnel fragmentation grenade.  It is designed to disperse fragments upon detonation.  It’s typically made from steel, which provides fragmentation as shards and splinters.  Sometimes they use a pre-formed fragmentation matrix, which allows for better fragmentation. Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected Vehicles

Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected Vehicles, or MRAPs, are a family of armored fighting vehicles used in the military.  They are designed to withstand IED explosions and ambushes from enemy fighters.  After their implementation in Iraq and Afghanistan, roadside bomb attacks and fatalities were reduced by nearly 90%.  MRAPs can survive hits that would take out Humvees and other military vehicles, saving countless lives throughout the wars. The vehicles, which come in many designs, usually have a V-shaped hull that deflects explosive forces originating from below the vehicle.  This is especially important, since many IEDs are detonated as a result of being driven on.  They are heavily armored, which protect soldiers from gunfire and ambushes.
