A Closer Look at Liquid Explosives

canister and fuel in test tube isolated on whiteMost of us are familiar with federal law that prohibit travelers from taking too many liquids on an airplane.  These rules were enacted after it was discovered that suspected terrorists were planning on bringing liquid explosives onto a plane.  The explosives were going to be disguised as regular products, such as Gatorade or shampoo.  Luckily, their plan was foiled by diligent authorities.  The question is, how do liquid explosives work?

Liquid explosives are made up of several different chemicals that together can create a violent reaction.  Typically a physical shock, such as smacking a container, can cause an explosion.  This causes the explosives to be very unstable and highly reactive.  Often times, people will cause detonation by mistake since the smallest movements can trigger the liquids.

This type of weapon is highly desired because of the availability of the chemicals and the ease of detonation.  Traditional explosives require blasting caps or other materials, but liquids only need to be physically disturbed.  Unfortunately, the simplicity of this weapon could lead to catastrophic results in the hands of the wrong person.

Thank you for taking the time to read our blog today.  I hope you enjoyed it as much as we enjoyed bringing it to you.  American Warehouse Systems was established to support the warfighter and we are very grateful for the men and women who protect this country every day.  God bless America!
