American Warehouse Systems was recently asked to help solve an access problem for the Air National Guard 934th Airlift Wing in Minneapolis MN. The 934th Airlift Wing, also known as the “Flying Vikings,” is Minnesota’s only Air Force Reserve unit. It is a combat-ready Air Force Reserve Command flying unit, which serves as the Department of Defense’s host for Army, Navy, Marine and Air National Guard units at the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport Air Reserve Station, MN.
The aircraft maintenance personnel at the 934th Airlift Wing needed a safe and easy way to access the top of their C-130H3 aircraft for inspection and repair. In addition to simple access the 934th needed to store tools and other equipment at wing level to eliminate the need to run tools up and down ladders constantly. American Warehouse Systems designed and implemented a cost effective solution to their problem.
We designed an American Mezzanine Systems mezzanine to elevate a WireCrafters tool crib up to the wing height of the C-130H3 then installed a retractable draw bridge off the wing side of the mezzanine floor for direct access to the wing. Now the tools are within easy reach of the aircraft maintenance team and the access walkway is raised out of the way when the C-130H3 is brought in and out of the hangar. This system does not touch the wing yet it creates safe ergonomic transport of personnel and materials directly to the top of the aircraft.
This entire project including materials, electrical work and installation was purchased via our GSA contract.
The Air National Guard is very pleased with the new elevated tool crib and access platform. According to maintenance personnel the system has sped up their processes considerably and eliminated injuries due to equipment transport from the floor to the wing. Right now the 934th Airlift Wing and American Warehouse Systems are in the design phase of another unit.
American Warehouse Systems is proud to support our Armed Forces with new innovative ideas in material handling equipment.
